For whom: This class is for you who own / have access to a sailing boat up to 44 feet and wish to learn how to use & sail it correctly & safely.  You might already have some sailing experience but feel uncertain that your skills are enough to captain it on your trips. We recommend both you and your crew to attend so you learn how to sail together!

Course requirements: Some experience in sailing as well as an available boat (owned or rented).

Course goal: To know & understand your own boat, to feel safe & in control when sailing it, to be able to captain it and take you & your crew through a pleasant sailing day or holiday.

Course plan: The course content varies a lot from boat to boat and group to group depending on your skill & experience. Some examples of skills you may require with your coach are:

• Quick check-up of the boat’s main elements before a safe recreational sailing (motor, pumps and vanes, mast, cables, sails, and lines)
• Tying up the few most useful knots
• Knowing the most useful sailing vocabulary such as tacking, jibbing…
• Motoring in and out of the harbor
• Knowing the points of sail and how to set the mainsail and jib accordingly
• Adjusting the boat speed using the sails
• Navigating around and between islands by sail
• Priority rules between sailboats and other vessels
• Tacking and jibbing safely
• Anchoring the boat, both on an island and in deeper water (aka lunch break)
